Vintage Cherry Blossom Fencai Gaiwan 景德鎮 老蓋碗

Sale price$132.00 USD

Fencai meaning "the pink family", classifies the porcelain by the rose-coloured decor against a white background. Fencai was first introduced around the end of the 1720's for use on porcelain. It is said to have developed as a result of European taste and technology introduced by Europeans working within the Imperial palace. Fencai remained popular throughout the 18th and the 19th centuries, and is also widely adopted in Europe.

The majority of the enamels is opaque or semi-opaque and does not flow when fired. With the creation of Fencai, it allowed a greater range of colour and tone than was previously possible in the production of Chinese porcelain, enabling the depiction of more complex images, including flowers, figures and insects.  Definitely a collectible piece.
