Gaiwan 蓋碗

Gaiwan 蓋碗

Gaiwan is a traditional Chinese tea vessel that can be found in two main configurations: a two-piece version, which includes just a bowl and a lid, and a three-piece version, which adds a saucer.

Primarily used for brewing and serving tea, it can also function as a personal cup, allowing tea drinkers to enjoy their beverage directly from the vessel. Known for its elegant design, gaiwan is typically made from materials such as porcelain, clay, or glass, making it suitable for a variety of high-quality teas, including green tea, oolong, and pu-erh.

The lid helps retain heat and aroma, enhancing the overall tea-drinking experience. The brewing process involves adding tea leaves to the bowl, pouring hot water over them, and covering with the lid to steep. This method allows for precise control over brewing time, catering to individual preferences, and making it an ideal choice for both personal enjoyment and social gatherings.
