Xiaguan, Yunnan is well-known in producing quality Tuo Cha. This tuo cha is the very first tea we imported in 1981. Estimated time of harvest is mid 1970s. Over the decades this tea has broken into pieces naturally due to expansion of the leaves from oxygen. That’s why typically more well aged tea cakes and bricks are easier to break apart then younger teas.
This is one of the rare premium teas! The natural subtle aged aroma is persistent in every brew and is exceptionally smooth. “Cha Qi” (Energy) come noticeably in the 9th and 10th brews. Sweetness and “Gan” (astringency) of the tea slowly releases into the 11th brew. It gives endless brews.
Special Brewing method:
- 1.5 teaspoon (4g) for 125ml (4oz) Porcelain teapot or Gaiwan
- Water temperature should be 100°C (212°F)
- Warm teapot, faircup and teacups
- Rinse tea 2 to 3 times
- 1st brew steep for 40 seconds
- 2nd brew steep for 40 seconds
- Each additional brews add 15 seconds
- You will properly find the tea still in its original shape.
Try this traditional method to extract the leaves:
- Traditional for premium aged teas like this we will save the brewed leaves in a bowl, and add 1 cup of water 250ml (8oz), steam it for 25 minutes.
- Or boil the tea leaves in water, simmer for 20 minutes.
