Ru Ware 五大名窑 — 汝窑

Ru Ware 五大名窑 — 汝窑

Ru Ware (Ruyao) is one of the Five Great Kilns, renowned for its rarity and significance in Chinese ceramics, primarily produced in Northern China for imperial use since the Song Dynasty. The Ru kilns pioneered the "all-over" glazing technique, which gave Ru Ware its jade-like appearance. The glaze colors range from nearly white to a deep, "duck-egg" blue, reminiscent of a clear sky after rain.

Ru Ware is typically undecorated, except for its intentional reddish-brown crackles caused by the glaze cooling faster than the ceramic body. This crackle effect is visible only on the outer surface, while the interior remains dense and strong. The thicker material of Ru Ware makes it ideal for fuller-bodied, darker teas, enhancing both the visual and sensory experience. Over time, the crackles darken as tea stains fill the spaces, adding character to the teacup.

Ru Ware is the epitome of a sturdy teacup, combining the finest craftsmanship with a regal aesthetic.
