Tasting Notes: This 1993 aged Pu-erh opens with a deep and calming aroma of aged herbs and warm earthiness. The liquor is exceptionally smooth with a rich, full-bodied texture (chun hou 純厚) that only develops through decades of proper aging. Each sip is mellow, rounded and soothing, leaving a gentle sweetness and a comforting finish on the palate.
Over time, the tea reveals layers of aged wood, herbal complexity and refined earthiness. Similar to a fine aged cognac or brandy, its beauty is found not in intensity, but in maturity, balance and depth. The long aging process has transformed the tea into a remarkably smooth and elegant expression of vintage Pu-erh.
Produced by Menghai Tea Factory in Yunnan and released under the Ji Xing (吉幸) brand, this tea represents an important era of Pu-erh history. During the early 1990s, Ji Xing was a recognized export brand, with many of its Pu-erh teas reaching collectors and tea drinkers around the world.
This particular tea has spent its entire storage period in Vancouver, Canada under complete dry-storage conditions. Unlike traditional humid storage, Vancouver’s naturally cool and dry environment allows the tea to age slowly and cleanly, preserving clarity while developing a refined aged character.
