Da Hong Pao is one of the most renowned Wuyi Cliff Teas (Yan Cha) and a celebrated oolong tea from China. Grown in the heart of the Wuyi Mountains in Fujian Province, this tea comes from the core "Cliffs" region, known for its unique geological and climatic conditions, perfect for producing teas of exceptional quality.

The name Da Hong Pao (Big Red Robe) originates from ancient legends. One tale recounts how a scholar attributed his success in passing the imperial exams to the energizing effects of this tea. To show his gratitude, he covered the tea bushes with a ceremonial red robe, symbolizing respect and protection. “Cliff” refers to tea cultivated in the core rocky area of the Wuyi Mountains, where the mineral-rich soil imparts the tea's signature "rock essence."

Da Hong Pao is celebrated for its distinctive flavor profile, featuring the iconic “Yan Yun” or rock essence—a harmonious blend of a mineral-rich texture and a floral-fruity fragrance with a lingering finish. Its bright orange-yellow liquor is full-bodied, revealing layers of complex flavors and a sweet, satisfying aftertaste. Carefully roasted by Farmer Wu, a native of Wuyi Mountain and a masterful artisan, this tea develops a deep, stable aroma that further elevates its elegance and refinement.

The tea’s growing environment is integral to its exceptional quality. The bushes thrive on the steep cliffs of Wuyi Mountain, where the red soil is rich in minerals like iron and aluminum, contributing to the tea's unique characteristics. The rocky crevices ensure excellent drainage, while the region’s frequent mist and balanced sunlight create a perfect microclimate for cultivating premium teas.
