Yuni Round Gaiwan 玉泥蓋碗
This gaiwan is fully hand-made by Jingdezhen artist Wu Ling. It is made with Yuni (“玉泥“) porcelain, a specialty clay from Jingdezhen that gives this gaiwan an almost jade-like trait when illuminated. Yuni’s dense structural integrity also means that it has great longevity and tea would not stain the porcelain.
The “inverted bell” shape (“倒钟形杯”) lets water tumble fully against its walls, encouraging tea leaves to unfold evenly throughout each brew. The architecture is thin at the rim and funnels down to a slightly thicker bottom, as such that the porcelain body would maintain its temperature while heat dissipates at the grip.
