Liu Li Tea Set 琉璃

$820 CAD

Liu li is one of China's five famous instruments and one of the seven treasures of Buddhism. Liu li is the name people called glass in ancient China. The material that originally produced Liu li in ancient China was the by-product obtained from the casting of bronze, refined and made into glaze.

The history of Liu li can be traced back to the Han Dynasty when it was made exclusively for imperial use. Today the word Liu li is used to describe what is known as glass art, or colored artificial crystals that are fired at a temperature of more than 1000 degrees by adding metal oxides. In 2008, the Liu li glaze firing technique was selected as China’s national intangible cultural heritage.

Liu li is a valuable art, for two reasons: First, the ancient glass material is special, and its production process is very complicated, done mostly by hand. Secondly, Liu li is not only a material, but also a cultural product. It is the perfect combination of ancient traditional culture and modern art.

Under the bright light, these beautiful pieces are crystal clear and dazzling. Seen from different angles, the colors vary and thus it is also called "five-colored stone". More importantly, Liu li products are unique and there are no two identical products. The uniqueness of Liu li adds elegance to the tea tasting experience as the elegant shape of the cups bring out the aroma of the teas.
