Mingqian tea refers to teas harvested before the Ching Ming Festival. Based on the Chinese lunar calendar the festival is around the first week of April. The picking period is within the ten days before the festival.  

During this time the temperature is cooler and it reduces the growth and therefore production is very limited. Mingqian teas are famous for its high-quality green tea with beautiful uniformly shaped leaves with delicate buds and more organic to drink.   

Reportedly there are up to 60, 000 tea buds in 500g finished tea. Therefore many say “Mingqian tea is as precious as gold”.
